The artist that interested me the most is Andy Warhol. I read up on him and found out that he was an
openly gay artist way before the gay and lesbian movement began. I also found this quote by him
interesting. He had this to say about
Coca Cola: What's great about this country is that America started the
tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the
poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the
President drinks Coca-Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca-Cola, and just think, you
can drink Coca-Cola, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a
better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are
the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows
it, the bum knows it, and you know it. I
never thought of a product in this way. It
is so true though. Being from what is
now Slovakia he says that this is what he liked about America and what he
thought made America so great. I would
not say that i did not find the other two artists interesting i would just say
that Andy is the one that caught my eye.
No HOMO.
Mr. Reuda- I love this quote, how do you think this idea about Coke and America inform his art? Remember that he used silkscreen (a quick commercial process) to create most of his art.
